Keeping your cat mentally stimulated is very important for their health and happiness.
Cats are independent creatures who come from a long line of active animals and hunters. It is important that, as cat owners, we find a way to stimulate them and their desire to hunt. This is especially important for indoor cats who do not have as much opportunity for free-roaming.Â
Why is it important to keep your cat mentally stimulated?
Cats are brilliant creatures and must keep their brains at play to address their cognitive, physical, and emotional well-being. Cat boredom can lead to mischievous behavior caused by pent-up energy. If you don’t find ways to enrich your cat mentally, you (or your furniture) may pay the price.Â
Enrichment games are the best way to keep your cat mentally and physically stimulated. Here are a few fun ways to create an outlet for your cat to help keep them happy and healthy:Â

They’ll learn cause and effect when one of their treats appears after pushing the tube! (Remember never to leave your pet with homemade toys unattended!)
The best games to play with your cat are interactive, allowing them to “act” out hunting experiences. Find a cat toy that can be moved or dragged by you at a safe distance from your cat’s paws and mouth. Spend time with your cat moving the toy around and allow them to chase or “hunt” the toy. Often, cats will use both physical and mental stimulation throughout these interactive games.Â
Cats are naturally very good at climbing short vertical distances and enjoy using their agility to move from one space to another. Providing them with a scratching or climbing post allows them to physically move around a new space without fear of ruining something in your home. This is the perfect outlet for your cat’s climbing needs.Â
