Buying quality food made with wholesome ingredients is essential to keeping  your pet feeling its best through every stage of life.

How can you tell if a pet food is truly “premium quality”? Continue reading to find out!

Premium Quality Meat-First Ingredients:

The first ingredient in every TLC formula is superior quality meat, mirroring your pet’s ancestral diet. Diets rich in quality proteins deliver essential amino acids. They are linked to reduced risk of heart disease, improved cholesterol levels, proper weight management, and increased lean muscle development. Our meat meals do not contain by-products and are 100% salmon, chicken, and lamb!

We source from trusted farms and suppliers to ensure we provide your fur baby with only the best quality meat.

Every ingredient has been responsibly raised, caught, or grown.

 TLC Pet Food includes:

  • Green-lipped mussels and lamb, sourced from New Zealand and chosen for their superior quality
  • Atlantic Salmon, sourced from sustainable fisheries in Norway
  • The chicken used in TLC formulas is sourced from Canadian farms and is subject to CFIA regulation and inspection.

Fruit and vegetables:

September is ‘National Fruits and Veggies’ month, so let’s discuss their significance in pet food! Although quality meat-based protein is the most essential ingredient found in pet food, fruits and veggies play a role too. A superior quality pet food includes the right balance of fruits and vegetables which are loaded with fiber, carbohydrates, natural antioxidants, and vitamins.

Not all fruits and veggies are created equal; TLC uses only the best! None of our ingredients have been genetically modified (GMOs)  nor have they been produced using recombinant DNA methods or genetically modified seeds.

Delivered fresh:

TLC Pet Food is naturally preserved using vitamin e and rosemary. Our food is made fresh, packaged, and shipped right to your door, ensuring your pet receives the freshest food possible. It does not sit on store shelves or in refrigerators for unknown periods.

Complete and balanced:

When feeding lesser-quality food, you may need to spend extra money buying supplements or additives to make up for what your pet’s food is lacking in nutrients. TLC has everything your pet needs to thrive, including pre and probiotics for superior gut health and glucosamine and chondroitin for healthy hips and joints (All Life Stages Whole Life Dog Food).

High in Omega 3 & 6’s:

Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids support cognitive, circulatory, skin, and coat health. This is why TLC includes omega-rich salmon and salmon oil in every bite! Pet parents who feed omega-rich diets can often see the difference it makes.

Inferior Pet Foods:

Fillers, by-products, and low-quality meats:

One of the most important things to avoid when buying pet food is non-beneficial, cheap ingredients that contain by-products, fillers, artificial flavors, and non-descript ingredients such as “natural flavor.” These ingredients are “empty” and do not provide the nutrients required for a complete and balanced diet.

Ingredient Splitting:

“Ingredient splitting” refers to listing the same kind of ingredient multiple times on an ingredient deck. Since ingredients are listed by inclusion levels, this practice results in the same kind of ingredient being listed further down, pushing more nutritionally beneficial ingredients higher up. For example, meat ingredients can be pushed further up the ingredient deck by splitting pea, pea fiber, pea protein, chickpeas, etc. When added together, the pea ingredients could surpass the meat ingredients in weight, making this practice deceptive in nature and something to avoid.

Recalls:

Research the pet food companies and brands when considering what food to feed your pet. Make note of any recalls and how they were handled. TLC Pet Food has proudly never had a recall since our founding in 1994.
