TLC Pet Food lists what you can expect as new kitten parents when bringing home your new kitten.
When bringing home a new kitten, there are a few things we all know will be involved, like endless cuddles. However, there are also many things new kitten owners learn as they go. Here is a list of 6 things nobody tells you before getting a kitten:
Kitten boredom is real and can often be the cause for their bad behavior or acting out. Kittens have lots of energy and need to be stimulated with interactive play-time to be happy and satisfied. Kitten’s naturally have hunting instinct and need to play games where they can act out these instincts.
Don’t be alarmed if you find a tooth here and there while your kitten is growing. This is normal. Make sure you have lots of chew toys around to help them through this phase as their new teeth come in.
Training a new kitten comes with its ups, downs, and even failures. Sometimes you feel like you are doing a bad job, but this is perfectly normal. Setbacks do not mean you’re a bad cat parent. They should only act as a reminder to be patient with yourself and your kitten.
Make sure you have trusted family or friends to watch over your kitten if you ever have to be away. Although kittens are very independent, they still need socialization, a clean litterbox, and a full food bowl. If you plan to hire a pet-sitter for these times, make sure you start looking before you ever need one. You don’t want to feel rushed to pick the right person when a situation comes up where you need one.
Your kitten will instantly become a permanent part of your family, and you will not be able to imagine how you ever lived without them!
